Kitty Casting Alert: Emily the Strange Movie News

The Hollywood Insider is reporting that 13-year-old actress Chloë Moretz, best known for her breakout role as in Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass, has been cast in the upcoming live-action Emily the Strange film to be released by Universal and Dark Horse Comics.

Chloë Moretz as Hit-Girl

Emily the Strange isn't your average 13-year-old. The goth-girl icon was created in the early '90s, and first appeared on stickers to promote the Cosmic Debris clothing line. In addition to having multiple books and comic books, she can also be seen all over the world on everything from stationary and clothing, to skateboards and even a guitar!

Emily is easily recognizable by her long black hair, black clothing, and the four black cats that are always by her side: Mystery, Sabbath, Miles, and Neechee. Hopefully all of the cats will be making an appearance in the long-awaited film!

Potty-training Your Cat

Borne of the realization that cats are "criminally underrepresented on the internet", The A.V. Club has decided to pioneer Cat Awareness Week.

To kick-off the event as part of The Found Footage Festival, they've come up with this hilarious selection of cats on the toilet.

The Pink Panther

A 22-year-old English woman is facing criticism after being identified as the owner of a hot pink pussycat found wandering around in a garden.

The man who found the cat was "dismissed as drunk by his amused wife when he told her someone had just thrown a pink cat over their backyard fence."

The woman was shocked after going to investigate and finding the cat, dyed so brightly it almost glowed in the dark.

The cat, named Oi! Kitty, was dyed pink by its owner, Natasha Gregory.

Natasha defended herself to The Sun, saying:

"It's my favourite colour, I love it. I've dyed my hair pink and I adore pink clothes. Turning Oi! Kitty pink seemed like a good idea. I always wanted a pink animal - a bit like my hair. After I turned her pink, I was like, 'Oh, she matches my hair!'

I read the instructions on the food colouring and there was nothing that would harm humans or animals. We eat the food the dye is used on, so I knew it wasn't toxic.

I would never hurt an animal. It's just food colourant. I would never put proper dye on an animal."

Oi! Kitty, appropriately renamed "Pink" by her rescuers, is resting comfortably at the RSPCA. The dye is not causing any harm, and they will wait for it to grow out instead of irritating her further by trying to wash it out.

Vet Penny Gillespie told the press:

"Pink is healthy and purrs loudly when you stroke her. She is lovely and I don't understand why someone would be so cruel as to dye her and throw her over a fence."

Big Cats Paint For Charity

To help kick-off the annual Fur Ball being held on October 8, 2010, Big Cat Rescue had several of their furry residents create unique works of art to be auctioned off for the charity.

The cats were each given a canvas covered in non-toxic paint and an enticing scent (catnip spray and Calvin Klein's Obsession??), and then were given free-range to express their creativity! As you can see in the pictures and video below, no matter how big these cats are, they still sometimes act like little ol' pussycats.

Proceeds from the Fur Ball and sale of the paintings will "fund both the ongoing care of more than 100 big cats that reside at the 45-acre sanctuary in Tampa, FL as well as the tiger conservation efforts of the International Tiger Coalition."

Saucy Hello Kitty Halloween Costume

Up until Halloween 2010, there weren't a heck of a lot of Hello Kitty costume options available unless you were under 10 years of age. This year, the infamous "Hello Kitty Dress" is back, along with a new "Red Glitter" option, and a romper that threatens to ruin all all of my fond childhood memories of the iconic white cat.

On the other hand, if these costumes aren't appropriate for your school or office Halloween shindig, you can always throw on the Hello Kitty headband, smear on some face paint, and call it a day.
