Vote Cat Hair Katy Purry For Best Celebrity Hairball Creature!

Last month, FURminator invited 35 pet bloggers from across the country to create cat hair celebrities to help celebrate National Hairball Awareness Day on April 27th. Today they announced that I am one of the five finalists in the competition, and if I win, I'll receive a $1,000 donation to the non-profit animal charity of my choice.

Please vote for my entry, Katy Purry, on the FURminator Facebook Page and help us win $1,000 for Sayreville Pet Adoption Center, a no-kill shelter located in Sayreville, NJ!

As what some would call a cat hair aficionado, I was eager to take on the challenge of crafting a celebrity out of Charlie and Priscilla's fur. The first celeb that came to mind was Katy Perry - not because I had any idea about how I was going to make her - but because she's an outspoken ailurophile and a devoted cat mom to Kitty Purry and Krusty, making her very deserving of a cat hair creature in her name.

Wanting to recreate one of her signature looks, I turned to Katy's candy coated "California Gurls" video for inspiration. Armed with bags of fur, sequins, and a belly full of gummi bears (hey, a girl's gotta eat), I anxiously got to work on my hairball creation. Having two, short-haired black cats as a natural resource didn't offer me much in the way of variety (Note to self: Invest in multicolored/long-haired cats for next year's competition), so the most ambitious aspect of the project ended up being Katy's hair. I began by bleaching tufts of fur (once they were removed from the cats, of course), before dying them with Ice Blue Raspberry Lemonade Kool-Aid. (Yep, I'm serious). Thus, a ~*cat hair star*~ was born.

Some of you might remember that I profiled the Sayreville Pet Adoption Center back in January, when word broke that the no-kill shelter was in danger of closing (You can read my original post here). Part of the reason they have been in such financial trouble was because they lost a contract with their own municipality due to their refusal to euthanize feral cats, preferring to advocate the T-N-R (Trap, Neuter, Return) method instead. While generous donations have continued to keep the shelter afloat, they're not out of the woods just yet, and this $1,000 donation could really help make a difference.
