Tulsa Art Museum Equips Feline Employees with Cat Cams, Naps Ensue

Two working kitties recently added "videographer" to their list of job responsibilities as resident "garden cats" at the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Garden Manager Melinda McMillen calls the cats, named Acer and Perilla, her "feline employees" and told News on 6 that the little "verminators" do a good job, and have become very popular among online visitors.

The two were recently equipped with small recording devices from Germany that record up to four hours of video and sound.

So far, all the footage has revealed is that the cats love finding shady new spots to nap, but the museum plans on posting updates to their Facebook page so visitors can follow any breaking developments.

Acer and Perilla join a growing trend of cats with cameras. From the pioneering Cooper Photographer Cat, who made it to Time Magazine last month, to the Friskies "RePURRters" movie project, felines from coast to coast are transitioning from being in front of the lens, to being behind it!

Back on the subject of garden cats, two summers ago (was it really that long? Nidia - we have to go back!), I visited the immensely beautiful Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. Similar to Philbrook, the grounds also employ a passel of pussycats who patrol the grounds and keep them pest free. It's about an hour drive from Philadelphia, and two and a half outside of NYC, but if you can make the trip, I'd definitely recommend it! (Not just because of the cats, the gardens are truly breathtaking as well!)

OK - that cameras are neat, but we are way more entranced that places have started adopting cats as "employees" - how very cool!!

That is really great that those cats have the run of all that land. The cameras are great too but we are just excited that the cats have such a good home. Thanks for this info.

There should be more places like this who decided to use cats as 'employees' :). Letting them do what's natural to them and help others out in the process :).
