In the wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, many people were concerned about the fate of Tashirojima, otherwise know as "Cat Island." The small island in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is home to around 100 elderly residents, and many more cats. Several sources have confirmed that its inhabitants (both human and feline) are safe after the magnitude 9 quake, and now a Japanese website called Response has posted some of the first images to emerge since the disaster.
The accompanying article is in Japanese, but the title loosely translates to "Shimo Tashiro Ishinomaki Bay earthquake, the cats had survived."
