Our friends at BuzzFeed found these amazing posters from the '60s that used a black and white kitty to playfully encourage NYC subway riders to be polite and considerate of their fellow passengers. The well-mannered feline, known as Etti-Cat, also had his own book published in 1965, called Etti-Cat The Courtesy Cat.
The signs, which some are calling "proto-LOLcat" are currently on display at the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn, NY.
Update: Urlesque tracked down a copy of the book and posted some amazing excerpts, which can be seen here!
