Meet Sir Stuffington, The One-Eyed Pirate Kitten With A Heart Of Gold

September 13, 2013 was the first day of Sir Stuffington's new life, because that was the day he was rescued, along with his two brothers, from the streets of Troutdale, Oregon. The tiny kitten, who tipped the scales at just over a pound, was suffering from calicivirus, a severe flea infestation that caused a heart murmur, a missing eye, and a jaw fracture that has since healed.

After being successfully treated at Multomah County Animal Services, the kitten was turned over to his loving foster mom, Blazer Schaffer, who told KOIN, "Everybody has beauty, it's just how you choose to see it."



In less than a week, images of the extraordinary feline have gone viral, with people drawn to his big blue eye and Grumpy Cat-channeling grin. His Facebook page has already racked up nearly 25,000 fans (probably way more by the time you read this), along with love and well wishes from around the world.


Fans can buy this pirate print to benefit Multnomah County Animal Services.

Although only weeks old, Sir Stuffington has made it his mission to bring awareness to the importance of local animal shelters, and the lives they save every day. All proceeds from the sale of his pirate print, shot by Amy Who Photography, will go to Multnomah County Animal Services, who are currently providing his veterinary care.

In addition to being just another pretty face, Stuffington's foster mom wants the spunky kitten's story to show that anyone can make a difference. "If you see a homeless kitten, pick it up take it to the shelter, take it to the vet, don't just leave them. They can survive and thrive and have somebody to love them," she said.

French American actor Gilles Marini, perhaps best known for his head turning role in the first Sex and the City movie and for his second place win on Season 8 of Dancing with the Stars, recently welcomed a new leading lady into his life, and he isn't afraid to share their love with the world.



Back in May, the actor and his wife surprised their daughter, Juliana, with a fluffy white kitten named Penelope (not to be confused with Kourtney Kardashian's infant daughter of the same name), to help teach her the responsibility, love, and dedication that come along with being a parent.



Since then, the precocious Persian has quickly become a treasured member of the Marini clan, frequently popping up in pictures posted on Gilles's various social media accounts.

You Oughta Know: White Cat Kumichan, The Fashionable Feline From Japan

Kumichan is a gorgeous white kitty who lives in Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan. I've been following her on Facebook for a few months now, but I just can't keep this cat in the bag any longer!





The fashionable feline was born on July 7, 2006, and loves taking daily walks with her owner, Akira Murahara. Almost everyday, Kumichan walks around the pedestrian deck between Hyogo Performing Arts Center and Hankyu Nishinomiya-kitaguchi Station, where her extravagant outfits attract a lot of attention!







Akira tells me that Kumichan is her dream kitty, and can wear various outfits very stylishly. In addition to their Facebook page, they also maintain a blog (written in Japanese) called White cat Kumichan's walking diary = 白猫クミちゃんお散歩日記.

At least one of our feline friends is still reeling from the loss of his beloved 49er's this weekend, but it's hard to stay glum when you're just so darn cute!





Pecan (aka "The nut") is a sports fanatic (he also cheered the SF Giants to a World Series win in October), who enjoys keeping fashionable while staying in touch with fans on his popular Facebook page. 





His human mama, Michelle, tells me that Pecan is a patient, treat-motivated feline, born in Carmel Valley, California. He was adopted from a cat rescue the day after Thanksgiving about seven years ago, and was named after the pie served on turkey day!





In addition to being quite handsome, the former rescue kitty turned fashion chameleon also has a charitable side. His sold out 2013 desk calendar raised $550 for Humane Society Silicon Valley, proving once and for all that being cute pays!

100,000 Facebook Likes Lead To New Cat For Social Media Savvy Siblings

Forget tears and temper tantrums! One social media savvy pair of siblings from Newton, Mass., turned to the internet to make their cat adoption dreams come true.

7-year-old Remi, and his 1-year-old sis Evelyn, pled with their parents for a kitty, to no avail. Hoping to placate the kids, their dad, Dan Urbano, came up with a proposition he was certain would fail: If a picture of them asking for a cat reached 1,000 likes on Facebook, the feline would be theirs. 

Eager to see the social experiment in action, their mom, Marisa, posted the picture on Nov. 7 with a sign that read: "Hey Facebook! My sister and I really want a cat! My Papa promises we can get one if we can get 1000 LIKES! Please like this picture! Thank you!"

Obviously, the irresistible combination of children and cats was more than the internet could handle, and within hours, the duo met and surpassed their goal by over a hundred thousand responses (the post currently stands at 110,000+ likes and 100,000+ shares).

The results aren't a surprise to anyone except for the Urbanos, who obviously missed the memo that the internet is made of cats. Fortunately, Papa Urbano remained true to his word, and the family visited Gifford Cat Shelter this past Saturday to pick up their new kitty, Hairyette Pawturr.

"Soon I will be big enough to carry MASTER around. That is when I will make my move for world domination...and be able to get my own treaties out of the cupboard."

Colonel Meow likes having his butt scratched. The stern furball was abandoned on the side of the road (by a passing space ship, I'm guessing), and rescued by the Himalayan and Persian Society. He was put up for adoption at a local Petco, where he used his powers of persuasion to make Anne Marie Avey his new master. Meow says on his Facebook page, "She cuddles me and feeds me and even sings to me which makes me happy. So happy I fall asleep."


"I don't drink coffee. But we're out of scotch."

In the past few weeks, the Colonel has become an internet sensation. In addition to welcoming thousands of "minions" to his popular Facebook page, he also paid a visit to the Seattle-based HQ of I Can Has Cheezburger, where he received minutes upon minutes of cuddles from the enraptured staff, and was interviewed by The Daily What.

The salty tongued Tribble-impersonator is a real character, whose larger-than-life purrsonality matches his out-of-this-world looks. In his latest video, he throws some serious shade at Boo the internet-popular Pomeranian, and writes (yes, I believe he wrote this himself) on his FB page:

I like to go on walks with my leash, but when that gets hard I sit down. I like my friend Boots, a stupid golden retriever who never know when I'm sneaking up. My favorite thing to do is eat. When I'm not eating, I feel like I forgot to eat so I go back to eat again. I'm really good at staring, and if I stare too long I forget what I'm doing and fall asleep. I'm really fluffy so I cough up a lot of hair balls. That scares me, so much so, that I will meow until someone comes and holds me. I'm the apartment police. So if you are going to the bathroom I might scratch and meow at the door to say, "who's in there? open up!"

Oh yeah, and he's scared of birds, too.

C.M. is a real-life Bertrum Thumbcat, who has successfully used the internet to fully realize his plans of world domination. I'm still not convinced he isn't battery operated (especially after watching "We're gonna need a bigger fan"), but I'm ready to become one of his faithful recruits

A Miracle For Willow

Willow is a six-month old kitten I met on Facebook who has touched the hearts of hundreds (going on thousands) of people with her inspiring story of hope.

It all started on a fiercely cold, February day in Michigan when her mom, Wendy, answered a Craigslist ad for a free "crippled" kitten. You see, while she's adorable, sweet, and loving just like any other cat, Willow's back legs are very badly deformed (possibly from an accident during birth), making it difficult, if not impossible, for her to walk.

Wendy felt an instant connection with the tiny kitten and took her home, promising to take care of her. She prayed that a doctor would be able to fix Willow's legs, but was devastated to learn that the damage was irreversible. The vet even recommended that Willow, healthy in every other way, be put down.

Refusing to give up hope, Willow and her mom persevered, and along with the support of her new online friends, raised enough money to take her to an orthopedic vet who advised that her life could be improved with a specially made kitty-sized wheelchair.

I'm happy to report that her stylin' new wheelchair arrived this week, and while she's still getting used to it, this can only signal a new start for the miracle kitten her mama calls, "Princess."

Wendy has shared Willow's story in an effort to bring encouragement and hope, and to help show that all animals deserve a chance for a healthy, fulfilling life. Watch the video above to learn more about Willow's journey, and follow her on Facebook to keep up with her progress!

As an update to Piper: The Three Legged Wondercat post I did back in March: Piper has made an excellent recovery from her surgery. Her foster mom, who posts frequent updates and pictures on her Facebook page, recently (and happily!) announced that she has made the miraculous kitty a permanent member of her household. Congrats to Piper and her new family on their purrfectly happy ending!

A Miracle For Willow

Meet Piper. At just a year old, this courageous little girl had already endured a lifetime of pain before being rescued from death row by the angels at Anjellicle Cat Rescue, just two short weeks ago.

From her Facebook info page:

"Piper was rescued from the euthanasia list at the NYC shelter on Feb. 25th. She had been there for five days. She was picked up from the street after someone called in an "injured cat." She was pulled by a volunteer with Anjellicle Cats Rescue and immediately taken to the vet. Her pelvis was shattered and her front leg so broken that it had to be amputated. Through all this, Piper's eyes show acceptance, trust and friendship. We will follow her progress."

I recently discovered Piper's story through an article by NY Cats Examiner columnist, Alexis Henry. Something about this kitty's big, expressive green eyes and tiny, delicate frame made me instantly drawn to her.

Piper is currently recovering in a loving foster home, where she's doing well after undergoing surgery to remove her front leg. However, there are still some concerns over her pelvic fracture, which they are hoping will heal on its own over time.

Her vet bill totaled nearly $5,000, and there's a ChipIn page if you'd like to contribute some money towards her medical expenses. You can also follow her on Facebook to see the latest pictures, and updates on her progress.
