PR Agency Seeks Cat Video Technologist

(Click here to view full size)

Hunting for a new job can be a soul sucking proposition, as you pour through online listings in hopes of finding your dream position. But every once in awhile a gem comes up (remember the Feline Lap Surrogate?), that's tailor made for the tech savvy feline enthusiast.

Taylor Herring, an award-winning public relations firm based in London, is currently seeking a Cat Video Technologist to join their rapidly expanding content creation team.

Instead of posting the opening to some boring job site or (horrors) an actual printed publication, they took to Twitter to share the good news. While the title might be slightly embellished, the job itself is very much real.

In addition to relevant skills and experience, candidates for the position should possess a "creative mind and obsessive social media habits," along with a knowledge of why Ryan Gosling won't eat his breakfast, and why Tom Selleck just can't get enough of waterfalls and sandwiches.

Qualified job seekers have until June 21 at 5 p.m. to submit their resume, along with a 6-second Vine selling their skills. Viewing Maru's entire video catalog isn't required, but recommended, just to be safe.

Cat Cupcake Tuesdays

I recently came across some truly adorable tuxedo cat cupcakes on Flickr, and when I contacted the photographer, Sue Yorks, about what inspired them, she came back with an even sweeter story, about her beloved black and white kitty named Pebbles!

Pebbles

Sue writes:

Pebbles is a 13-year-old kitten like girl who is smart, sassy and very intelligent. I got her aged 8 from a work colleague and she is the love of my life. When I broke my ankle she never left my side and she looks after me when my arthritis is particularly bad.

Birthday Cupcakes

There are two versions of the cupcakes on my site - they were bought from Johnnie Cupcakes (in the UK).

Birthday Cupcakes

Special thanks to Sue for sharing Pebbles with us this week! Check out more great pics of this pretty kitty over on her Flickr page!

Freida The Throwaway Kitty Defies Odds And Wins Hearts With Her Big Spirit And Tiny Sweaters

(Click here to watch if video doesn't load)

The internet's latest uplifting feline tale comes to us from Maine, where a tiny cat named Freida has won over thousands of supporters from around the world with her inspiring story of survival. The frail, frightened cat was found in a ditch on April 10, one mile away from civilization. She was emaciated and dirty, and weighed only two pounds.

Fortunately, Freida was discovered by a Good Samaritan, who brought her to Forgotten Felines of Maine. Thanks to her severe mats and a skin rash, her fur was shaved and she requires frequent baths and anti-fungal cream treatments. She is also anemic, hence her fashionable/functional outfits - sweaters, tutus, and even an itty bitty bikini - that all help keep her little body warm.

The fully grown cat, who is actually two-years-old despite only being as big as a small bottle of Coke, has also been diagnosed with a non-functioning liver and an enlarged gallbladder due to the malnourishment she endured throughout her life. However, despite her health issues, this little fighter has exhibited a fierce will to live, and continues to grow stronger every day.

To help pay for the cost of her mounting medical bills, Forgotten Felines started a FundRazr campaign last month, which has already reached 109% of its $10,000 goal, thanks to donations from compassionate cat lovers, who have been touched by Freida's plight.

Pam Hansberry of Forgotten Feline's tells Mashable: "Just because Freida is cute, and we in no way knew that when we saved her. Freida is the face of the throw aways in society ... may her cuteness cause others to have a change of heart."

If you'd like to receive updates on Freida, or make a donation towards her ongoing care, visit her Facebook page here for more information.

Keyboard Cat Comes To Life With Animatronic Plush Toy

Keyboard Cat Animatronic Plush from ThinkGeek

It's been nearly two years in the making, but the highly anticipated Keyboard Cat Animatronic Plush has finally come to fruition, thanks to a little help from ThinkGeek. The 8" tall orange tabby comes with his own little tee and piano, and is a great gift for friends, family, significant others, coworkers, and anyone else who needs to be played off.

The famous musical feline rose to fame in 2009, after a 20+ year old video of Charlie Schmidt's cat, Fatso, found its ways on to YouTube. The original clip has over 31 million views to date, and remains one of the most beloved viral cat videos of all time.

The Keyboard Cat Animtronic Plush, a ThinkGeek exclusive, is available now for $34.99. A relatively small price to pay to own a little a piece of internet cat history.

It's Caturday!

Welcome back for another edition of Caturday, where we catch up on the week's latest cat news, and get to meet some of your amazing kitties!

This week, Grumpy Cat inked a movie deal, we checked out some really cool cat donuts, and I recapped my Catster style columns for May!

Also, there's still time to enter for your chance to win a handmade crochet birthday cat hat from I Heart Needlework! I'm drawing the lucky winner this coming Tues. 6/4!

Ninja and Cookie

This week's featured felines are an adorably affectionate duo, who are never far from each other's side!

Amy writes:

These are our family cats, Cookie and Ninja. The tortie is Ninja and the black & white kitty is Cookie. They are always together!

They're a week apart in age, and we got them from the local animal shelter at just 12 and 13 weeks old. These babies are constantly in a pile somewhere. I got them when I was so overcome with grief after our cat, Casper, a Siamese domestic mix passed away suddenly after only twelve years with us. I couldn't deal with a home without cats, so I replaced one cat with two.

They are almost three years old now, and we adore them. My 12-year-old daughter was thrilled to have a cat of her own (Cookie), and she's very partial to her. Ninja is very partial to me so we each have our own 'baby'. I've never understood animal-less homes (unless allergies are involved) because of the joy they bring to our lives. They aren't property, they are family members.

It's actually funny because my mother-in-law isn't a cat person, and she complained constantly about how intrusive they were. I was quick to remind her that they live here, this is their home, and it's not possible to intrude in your own home. I think she understands now. :)

I bet she does! Special thanks to Amy for sharing her furry family with us this week!
