It's Caturday!

Welcome back for another edition of Caturday, where we catch up on the week's latest cat news, and get to meet some of your amazing kitties!

This week, we met the Pusspins, obsessed over black cat inspired clothing cupcakes, and read the heartwarming story of Cobra and Straymond, two barn kitties who got a second chance at life, thanks to the Backyard Buddies program!

Elsewhere, I recapped the PetSafe 2013 Paw Print Blogger Summit that I attended in Knoxville, and gave you a behind-the-scenes look at The Friskies cat video awards in NYC, where I met Grumpy Cat!

Bombay

This week's featured feline has had his share of health struggles, but is making it through, thanks to the support of his loving family.

Jeannie writes:

Bombay is a 6-year-old Lynx Point Siamese mix, who we adopted at 8-weeks-old from the Cat Care Society in Lakewood, Colorado.

During his first year and a half, he grew into a beautiful cat with no issues at all. Then, I started to notice him limping a bit, before he fell over and could not walk at all. I took him to our vet, who did x-rays and said it looked like he had a bit of arthritis. They gave him some meds, and he got a bit better, but a few weeks later he got really bad and could not walk again.

I took him to a specialist, but they really had no clue. They said he needed a $40,000 surgery ASAP or he would never walk again, which I knew in my heart was not true. I was so upset, and took him back to my regular vet, where they did more x-rays and tests. They found that not only did he have arthritis, but bone loss in his legs, too. We put him on Predisone and some pain killers, and he did ok for a few months but then got worse again.

I took him back to the shelter where he was from, and saw the doctor there. She took more x-rays, and it showed that his bone loss had increased in just six months. No one could find out what the cause was, even with blood tests, ultrasounds and x-rays.

Dr. Rooks at Cat Care really took her time and wanted to help him, and we put him on Predisone twice a day, give him Cosequin in his food, and now he goes for weekly acupuncture and laser treatments, along with a shot of Adequan once a week.

All of these treatments have helped him so much!!!! I know he is not going to live to be an old cat, but we are doing everything we can to make him as comfortable and happy as long as he is here!!!!

He has had some episodes along the way, including a three day hospital stay in an incubator, that he came through this year. He also saw three new specialists, and every time they do x-rays, no one believes he can walk at all. He is a miracle.

I just wanted to share his story because he has brought us so much joy and is such a special boy. We can't imagine life without him! He loves to go outside with me on the weekend and lay in the sun, and sit by the fire at night. We would do anything for him because he pays us back 1 million times with love!!!!

Special thanks to Jeannie for sharing her handsome boy with us this week! Bombay is so lucky to have found a family willing to do whatever it takes to give him the best life possible! ♥

Jeannie is to be commended for taking such extraodinary good care of Bombay. Well done, Jeannie. I'm happy that all I have to do with Quint is simply brush his teeth everyday to keep his placque allergy under control so he gets to keep his teeth.

It is so tough to have your baby be sick and not really have a complete diagnosis for what is going on. I hope that the vets do get a better handle on what is happening to his bones and that they can give him the physical wellbeing to match the love and attention that his family gives him.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story about your kitty. Bombay sounds like a strong, brave boy and you are a great cat owner to keep trying to find a diagnosis. I am wishing you the best of luck and sending all my good health vibes to Bombay!

I love this cat! He looks so much like my kitty who passed away on January 26th. I have been voting for him since I stumbled upon him on the Modern Cats Cat of the Week site. Now a group of us has been voting for him as well. Jeannie, I applaud how much you have done for this adorable boy and just seeing him brings tears to my eyes.
