Freida The Throwaway Kitty Defies Odds And Wins Hearts With Her Big Spirit And Tiny Sweaters

(Click here to watch if video doesn't load)

The internet's latest uplifting feline tale comes to us from Maine, where a tiny cat named Freida has won over thousands of supporters from around the world with her inspiring story of survival. The frail, frightened cat was found in a ditch on April 10, one mile away from civilization. She was emaciated and dirty, and weighed only two pounds.

Fortunately, Freida was discovered by a Good Samaritan, who brought her to Forgotten Felines of Maine. Thanks to her severe mats and a skin rash, her fur was shaved and she requires frequent baths and anti-fungal cream treatments. She is also anemic, hence her fashionable/functional outfits - sweaters, tutus, and even an itty bitty bikini - that all help keep her little body warm.

The fully grown cat, who is actually two-years-old despite only being as big as a small bottle of Coke, has also been diagnosed with a non-functioning liver and an enlarged gallbladder due to the malnourishment she endured throughout her life. However, despite her health issues, this little fighter has exhibited a fierce will to live, and continues to grow stronger every day.

To help pay for the cost of her mounting medical bills, Forgotten Felines started a FundRazr campaign last month, which has already reached 109% of its $10,000 goal, thanks to donations from compassionate cat lovers, who have been touched by Freida's plight.

Pam Hansberry of Forgotten Feline's tells Mashable: "Just because Freida is cute, and we in no way knew that when we saved her. Freida is the face of the throw aways in society ... may her cuteness cause others to have a change of heart."

What a pretty little girl - I wish all sorts of bad things on the human who dumped her and left her to die... because that is the only way she could have wound up where she was found.

Precious dear tiny little baby. So small and a grown ladycat. Bless that tiny dear heart. And the heart of the person who saved her.

May Frieda continue to grow in strength and toward good health. Rescue kitties are the best and I can only say thank God for the kind person that brought her from the ditch and the brink of death.

She is one beautiful little angel of a cat. One look at her face will melt one's heart.

My hope is that the "buzzard" (there is a more fitting word) will get his or her just dues at some point in their life.
