It's Caturday!

Welcome back for another edition of Caturday, where we catch up on the week's latest cat news, and get to meet some of your amazing kitties!

This week, we shed collective tears of joy over the formerly faceless kitten, met the poor lady who is afraid of cats, marveled at some realistic cat cupcakes, got an update on Oskar the blind kitten, were in disbelief over the ugliest cat Christmas sweaters, watched as shelter kitties ran on their own life-sized hamster wheel, found out what happens when you replace a Saint Bernard with a cat, picked out our favorite kitty calendars of 2012, discovered the light-up, self-tweeting cat bed of the 21st century, and fell in love with Ryoma the cosplaying cat!

Also, thanks to everyone who saw the post about the Mr. Bojangles ornament yesterday, and were inspired to go and buy one! Regina from Monster & The Squirrel stopped by my Facebook page last night to say, "Mr. Bojangles sold many ornaments today. :) Thank u everyone, the sales have helped out a lot with his medical care."

Oliver

This week's featured feline is a little darling who comes to us all the way from Sydney, Australia!

His owner Sarah, the lovely lady behind The Purr Diaries, writes:

"This is little Oliver (the Second), about 8 months old now. I only had one cat, Bosco, for 6 years and had wanted another cat for a long time. Probably since I first got Bosco, actually. Having been obsessed with cats my whole life, and having surprisingly very few throughout it, the need to get another cat had been bugging my boyfriend, Dan since we first got together.

Baby Oliver

We lived in an apartment for the first two years of our relationship so I knew it wouldn't be possible then, but I managed to wear him down when he gave in and said, “When we buy a house, we can get another one.”

"Yay, victory!" I thought.

All grown up!

So imagine my surprise when on June 13th, our three year anniversary, Dan gave me the cutest cat card which read inside, "You can get another cat." I was elated! Oliver, who was adopted from a shelter, is the perfect little kitty, and he and Bosco get along well!

Now, what excuse can I use for a third kitty?...

For more on my lovelies come and check us out at www.thepurrdiaries.blogspot.com or www.facebook.com/thepurrdiaries."

Special thanks to Sarah for sharing the enchanting Oliver with us this week! How lucky is she to have such a great boyfriend, who got her the very best anniversary present of all? Ollie is a sweetie, and has the most beautiful eyes - I just hope his big brother Bosco doesn't get too jealous from all the extra attention!

Buy a Mr. Bojangles Ornament to Benefit a Diabetic Kitty in Need

Mr. Bojangles Felt Kitty Ornament

Looking to add a bit of feline festivity to your tree, and help out a good cause at the same time? Etsy sellers Monster & The Squirrel are selling the Mr. Bojangles Felt Kitty ornament this holiday season to help defray the costs of their beloved kitty's medical bills after he was recently diagnosed with feline diabetes. Feline diabetes is not curable, however it is highly treatable with proper care. Left untreated, the increasingly common disease in cats can lead to worsening symptoms, or even death.

From the item description:

"Mr. Bojangles has the biggest eyes you've ever seen and the biggest heart. He loves hanging out with people and trying to get attention from his BFF pitbull friend Otis. Mr. Bojangles is the sweetest little furball around!

Our sweet kitty was diagnosed with feline diabetes a few months ago and has been undergoing treatment. All proceeds go towards Mr. Bojangles insulin, syringes, special food, and vet visits. It has been very hard financially and emotionally on us. We have sold a lot of our stuff just so Bojangles will have his medication and special food."

If you're interested in contributing to the cause, the Mr. Bojangles Kitty Special Edition Ornament can be purchased here for $10.00.

Ryoma the Cosplaying Kitty

(Click on the pics to see the full photoset!)

It's fair to say that I see my fair share of cat pictures on a daily basis, so believe me when I say that this kitty right here is an exceptional specimen of cuteness (if those little paws in the panda picture below don't convince you, I don't know what will). His name is Ryoma, and he's a 1-year-old Scottish Fold living in Japan with his equally adorable brother, Marron. Get this kitty a box, and I think Maru has some serious competition!

Click here to check out Ryoma's blog (in Japanese!) for even more pics of him, Marron, and their unbearably precious kitty cosplaying ways. I just want to hug him and squeeze him and love him forever!

Watch the Cutest Little Feline Figure Skating Fanatics

Kittens watch NHK figure skating cup

In case you missed it, these little Bengal kittens are mesmerized watching Daisuke Takahashi skate his way to victory during the 2011 NHK Trophy competition in Japan. Who knew that figure skating was the "red dot" of sporting events for cats?

"I almost got him you guys!"

The Light-Up, Self-Tweeting Cat Bed of the 21st Century Has Arrived

Samuel Cox, one part recently finished MA student, another part cute guy with cat (sorry, he is!), has created what he calls, "a 21st century cat basket, an ideal resting location for any cat."

Housed inside the shell of an old Apple eMac monitor, Cox's eSleeper is controlled by an Ethernet Arduino that receives data from an infra-red beam. When entering the bed, the cat is greeted with "the iconic Macintosh start-up chime," along with "relaxing waves of color." Once naptime is over, the cats exit prompts the sensor to dim the lights, and send out an automatic tweet, displaying various phrases, along with the amount of time kitty was holed up in its dreamy, technological oasis.

Recent status updates from Samuel's cat's Twitter account (which can be found @eSleeper1), have included musings on going to the vet ("Vet day today :( Managed to stay in bed for 41 minutes before I was dragged out"), cat fights ("Fuming!!! Had a catfight and was sent to bed. I've given it 41 minutes and I'm going out. Hopefully he's still outside..."), and Justin Bieber ("Horrible nightmare. My owner dressed me up as Justin Bieber and 171 minutes in I was singing 'One Time'. Wait...that wasn't a dream.").

Imagine being away work or out wherever and checking Twitter, only to find that your cat has been busy sending status updates (err..napping) all day long? Now if only I could get Cox to invent a similar device that would send out longer, (semi) random blog posts, then I could take a nap while my cats do all the work!

Catsparella 2012 Cat Calendar Guide

Can you believe it's December 1st already? As I turn to the last page of my Yoga Kittens 2011 calendar, my mind turns to 2012, and finding the purrfect kitty-cat calendar that's worthy of my wall. I find choosing a calendar a difficult proposition; In addition to having so many choices, there's the fact that whatever you chose, you have to live with it for an entire year!

You can easily find so many kinds of cat and kitten calendars out there (and frankly, a lot of them start looking the same after awhile), but this list consists of some of my favorites that are a little more off the beaten path, just in case you're ready to give up your plain ol' "Kittens" calendar for something different.

I profiled AC kitty and the making of this calendar back in October, including an interview with its creator, the lovely Miss Kate Funk. If you're a music and/or black cat fan, you'll love this calendar filled with AC's interpretations of musical icons such as Kitty Gaga, AC Vicious, DJ Mad Catter (shown), and more.

Move over Business Cat! These "highly professional" business kitties are ready to make your cubicle more palatable as you imagine your annoying co-workers as feline friends. Added Bonus? The calendar includes "Taco Tuesday" reminders for every Taco Tuesday of 2012!

I'm a big fan of Cathy Peng's Etsy shop, so I was super excited to see her adorable designs presented as miniature works of art. Also fun to note is that although it's called the "Owl and Pussycats Calendar," in reality, there's only one owl in sight!

I'm someone who likes to mark my calendars up with holidays, birthdays, appointments, and more, but this desk calendar makes me want to change my ways! The calendar comes with a little display stand, and features 12 charming mama and kitten pairs in a variety of colors and patterns, including white, calico, tuxedo, and more.

A charitable calendar is always a safe bet, and one of my picks for this year features the kitties of Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in St. Pauls, North Carolina. BCRS is a wonderful facility that provides lifetime care for cats that are blind or have been diagnosed with FIV/FELV. $5 from the sales of each calendar will go to help supporting its feline residents.

Inspired by the popular dreamcats photoblog, this screenprinted calendar by Fieldguided doubles as a fine art print that can be framed and treasured for years to come.

This sexy calendar features 12 months of hot guys posing with their adopted kitties, created to help break the "cat lady" stereotype, and help promote cat adoption! The lusty calendar was shot by fashion and beauty photographer Adam Bouska of the "No H8" campaign, and the publisher is donating $1 from each retail sale to help shelter animals in need. In addition, Found Animals has purchased 10,000 calendars, that were donated to LA area non-profit groups that help cats.

Lest the men get jealous, Mid-Michigan Cat Rescue is offering up some ladies who love their kitties, too! Their calendar features 40's and 50's style photos of rescued cats and kittens, along with vintage clothing clad models in traditional pin-up poses. 100% of the proceeds go to Mid-Michigan Cat Rescue, a non-profit, no kill cat rescue that saves hundreds of homeless cats each year.

Able and Game have turned their quirky, illustrated greeting cards into 12 months of fun with this calendar featuring some of their most popular designs including, "Wishing You All The Cutest Kittens In The World," "I Love You Just The Way I Am," and "You're The Cutest Kitten In The Basket."

This is your cat, this is your cat on catnip! Catnip Madness colorfully chronicles a year's worth of delinquent kitties that have been caught rolling in the illicit herb, and the hilarious hijinks that ensue.

What's going to be on your wall this year?
