Doctor Cat Kickstarter Brings The Feline Physician To Print

Fans of Sarah Sobole's popular Doctor Cat webcomic will be excited to learn that her first book is on its way! Sobole's Kickstarter to produce the first ever Doctor Cat books has already exceeded its goal, with 11 days still left to go.

Doctor Cat, who has been "operating Fridays" since 2011, is an adorable and often hilarious glimpse into the life of a cat who somehow managed to obtain a medical license. He (she?) performs surgeries, delivers babies, and even takes time out of his busy schedule to answer fan mail (Q: Since hygiene is so important in hospitals, don't you think you should be wearing pants? A: Haha, that's ridiculous! Who's ever heard of a cat wearing pants?!)

The purpose of the Kickstarter is to produce a 72-page full color book featuring the first Doctor Cat story, and a 6-page bonus about Lawyer Cat teaching Doctor Cat how to play golf.

There will also be a second, shorter book ("Doctor Cat's Day Off"), that includes four pages of bonus comics starring Lawyer Cat and Human Nurse.

Donation levels range from $6 for a PDF file of each book, to $500 for the chance to appear as a background character in an upcoming comic.

With the original $8,500 goal safely behind her, Sobole recently added some "stretch goals" to encourage folks to pledge. When she hit $9,000, contributors were promised stickers shipped with every physical order, and after recently clearing the $12k mark, Sarah unveiled some super cool prints and posters (like Chat Docteur, above) available to those who contribute in the $15, $40, and $60 range.

Want more Doctor Cat? Catch up on all of the medical marvel's adventures here, follow him on Facebook, and visit the Doctor Cat shop to stock up on shirts, buttons, stickers and even a Doctor Cat plush!

The Doctor Cat Kickstarter campaign officially comes to a close on Sunday, July 21.

Help The Amazing Acro-Cats And Rock-Cats Make Their Purr-fect Tour Bus Dreams Come True

You know the phrase "herding cats"? Well, Samantha Martin, founder of The Amazing Acro-Cats and Rock-Cats, does just that with her touring troupe of rescued house kitties who wow crowds with their ability to push carts, ride skateboards, turn on lights, walk tight ropes, play instruments, and much more. Most of the cats in Samantha's show are orphans, rescues, or strays, and the group also take fosters on the road, where they have found homes for nearly 90 cats and kittens to date.

Martin, who has been training animals since she was ten, started the group 7 years ago. She uses clicker training to condition the cats, which relies on using positive reinforcement. In addition to providing entertainment, the show is meant to demonstrate what cats are really capable of. Martin says, "By training your own feline, many behavioral problems can be prevented while also providing physical exercise and mental stimulation. Plus it's a great way to spend some quality time with your kitty."

Now, the Amazing Acro-Cats and Rock-Cats are looking to the public for help in continuing their mission. Their current tour bus is falling apart, so they created a Kickstarter campaign to raise $28,000 to help purchase and refurbish a larger and safer vehicle. They have plans to gut a retired tour bus and turn it into a cat paradise, that will include cat walks, cat trees, and a permanent nursery/foster area, "so even more little kittens will have the chance at a forever home."

Like most Kickstarter initiatives, there's a huge range of rewards for those willing to make a pledge. For the minimum amount of $12, patrons will receive a bumper sticker that says "I helped build the Cat-mobile!" and a Tuna and the Rock-Cats postcard, while larger donations net awesome gear like a Cat Training Kit, assorted Rock-Cats merch, tickets to upcoming shows, and my favorite -- the chance to have Tuna (aka "The Star") write you letters from the road!

While the campaign is meant to signify a fresh start for the animal collective, it's also tinged with sadness. The cat bus project is dedicated to the memory of the Rock-Cats' beloved kitty guitar player, Pinky, who lost her battle to breast cancer late last month.

United Bamboo 2013 Cat Fashion Calendar Kickstarter Project

"Do you like cats? Do you like fashion? Do you like keeping track of what day it is?" asks the latest Kickstarter video for United Bamboo's 2013 cat fashion calendar. In the second feline fashion-centric Kickstarter in as many months, the innovative brand is heralding the release of their famous feline fashion calendar with the promise of even more kitties in tiny outfits to come.

2013 Calendar (Pledge of $40 or more)

Released to many accolades in 2010 and 2011 before taking a break in 2012, the annual yearbook features cats dressed up in miniature replicas of United Bamboo's signature runway looks. In May of this year, the brand issued an internet-wide casting call for potential kitty models for the 2013 edition, before narrowing the field down to the twelve lucky felines who were chosen to grace its pages.

2013 Poster (Pledge of $10 or more)

Instead of going the traditional pre-order route, UB have turned to Kickstarter to try their paw at launching a spin off brand, called Catclub. In addition to the annual calendar, the feline imprint promises to feature products with pictures of cats wearing United Bamboo, all year long.

Magnet (Pledge of $15 or more)

The brand is attempting to raise $20,000 by Sept. 13 to launch Catclub, and have already enticed 55 cat lovers with a sense of humor to put $1,752 into the kitty since going live last week. To take part in this one-of-a-kind fundraiser, donors are encouraged to give as little as $10 in exchange for a 2013 cat calendar poster, while pledges of $40 and up yield a copy of the calendar itself, framed prints of the feline fashionistas, and more.

16 x 20 Framed Print (Pledge of $250 or more)

Visit the United Bamboo 2013 Cat Calendar Kickstarter Page for more information about the project, and to find out how you can make a contribution towards the future of feline fashion for yourself.

Pretty Snake's "Kitty Garden Party" Leggings Purr For Pledges On Kickstarter

Cat fashion pioneers Pretty Snake have been dutifully churning out their enormously popular feline fashions - from their one-of-a-kind Cuckoo Cat Sweaters, to adorable totes, Mutant Kitty Tees, cat leggings, and more - to the delight of the kitty loving Etsy masses since 2010.

Recently, P.S. designer Joseph Aaron Segal decided to expand the ever-growing collection, with a knockout pair of "Kitty Garden Party" leggings, which are poised to become one of the brand's most covet-worthy items yet. The problem? While all of Pretty Snake's previous designs are handprinted, the leggings require expensive outsourcing (within the U.S.) to create the digitally printed fabric. In order to keep the dream alive for cat lovers who are drooling over the squee-inducing design, Segal decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project (a cat fashion first?), asking fans to help make the leggings a reality. The promise is that if he reaches his goal of $5,000 by July 3rd, the garden party leggings will be unleashed for all of the world to enjoy.

Contributions can be made starting at $1, with gifts given for donations of $25 and up. The minimum pledge amount will garner you a Limited Edition Rainbow Foiled Snake Print Tote, while $150 will net the tote bag, along with a Limited Edition Rainbow Kitty Mountain Print T-shirt, a black canvas tote bag with Golden Mutant Kitty Print, and a pair of the "Kitty Garden Party" Leggings in your choice of sizes.

As of this writing, the quirky project has already generated the interest of 20 ailurophiles, who have pledged nearly $1,000 towards Segal's lofty goal. If you're interested in learning more about Pretty Snake, or making a contribution of your own, visit the "Kitty Garden Party" Leggings Kickstarter page for more information.

Nominations can be made once a day through June 29th!
