I Am A Cat Person (And So Are You)

When I arrived at Target at 7am to wait in line for the Jason Wu collection to go on sale the morning of Super Bowl Sunday, I only had one goal in mind: Get a Milu the cat shirt, tote, and scarf.
A long line had steadily formed, and when the doors finally opened an hour later, I made a dash for the accessories department and grabbed the tote emblazoned with a black cat on the front. With it barely in my grasp, I turned and raced across the aisle to the clothing section to find some cat t-shirts to try on before they were all snatched up.

My sense of relief at getting a tote and shirt was short lived, before it hit me like a thunderbolt that I hadn't seen the scarf. I raced back over to the accessories rack, but no more than three minutes later, it was completely picked clean. My heart sank as I made my way to the fitting room to try on the shirts.

Outside, I encountered a young woman standing in front of a shopping cart, holding up the cat scarf to examine it. I uncharacteristically approached her, and in a feline fashion induced frenzy blurted out, "I'll trade you a shirt for that scarf!"

She thought about it for a moment, nodding her head and giving me a sad look. The woman next to her, who appeared to be her mom, delivered the final, crushing blow: "Sorry, we're cat people."

Admittedly, it took everything in me not to shout back "If you only knew!" - which I didn't, because I am (mostly) a sane person and, um - it was just a scarf. I certainly couldn't begrudge them for liking cats, and in retrospect, I probably should've just given them my business card and chalked it up to marketing experience.

In the end, my cat lady karma paid off and I eventually got a scarf (which I proudly wear every day to show that I am a cat person) thanks to Janine and Cree. While at the time I beat myself up for not being able to get one for myself, it honestly means that much more because it came from the hands of fellow cat lovers and friends.

I don't need anyone to tell me there are all kinds of cat people in this world, but a heartwarming video like this helps to remind us we're not alone (even if it that means we all want to wear the same scarf). However, if eating ice cream in my pajamas is all it takes to earn the "crazy cat lady" moniker these days - then count me in!

Jason Wu & Milu The Cat Prepare To Touch Down At Target

Hours before the big game starts on Sunday, there will be a battle of another kind going down at Target locations across the country, when their limited edition collaboration with designer Jason Wu is scheduled to hit stores.

What's so special about this collection, you ask? The last Target designer launch for Missoni in September crashed the retailer's website and sold out of stores immediately. Fashionista is reporting that fashion editors are already hawking some of Wu's goods (including the Milu the cat scarf and tote) on eBay, and while they note that the level of excitement isn't quite as high as it was for Missoni, it's still sure to be a sell-out. If you can't make it to a store, you can always shop online - But as someone who lives within proximity to about a million Target stores, I feel obligated to be there bright and early (you're welcome to say hi, but get out of my way - jk!).

Milu Scarf, $19.99

Obviously, Target has their market down pat, because every show I watched this week teased me with their adorable cat-themed commercial during the breaks. As the official "spokes-cat" of the collection, Milu also appears at the top of the Target website, and they plastered the glam kitty's image on the side of a building in TriBeCa.

Is Milu a real cat? I was unable to get a direct reply, but it appears the elegant black feline is, at least in part, inspired by Jason Wu's own cats, Jinxy and Peaches. Wu recently told Fashionista that the gorgeous little tabbies (seen here) are the "loves of his life."

Milu Shirt, $19.99

Milu Cream Tote, $39.99

So, what's our game plan on all of this, ladies? I've never fallen for the hype of one of these collections before, but Milu has got me going gaga. We know that the launch will include (at least) three cat related items - a scarf, a tote bag, and a t-shirt. If my local Target opens at 8 a.m., am I gonna be the only dummy standing outside at 7? Seasoned fashionistas, please assist in sharing your shopping tactics for the big day!

2/5 Update: Check out my haul! I wasn't able to get the scarf, but I scored the t-shirt and tote!
Update #2: My scarf is on its way thanks to Janine & Cree!

Cat Inspired Accessories Claw Their Way Into Jason Wu For Target Collection

Back in October, we learned that Jason Wu's upcoming collection for Target would be inspired in part, but a black kitty muse named Milu, but could only guess at how the sleek feline would figure into the highly anticipated line.

All of the mystery was put to rest yesterday, when Target unveiled a sneak peek at the collection, where we saw the cat figuring prominently into accessories such as a chic tote bag and a printed scarf. Cat fashionistas take note, the Jason Wu for Target collection hits stores on February 5th, and is sure to sell out quickly. For a full preview of the line, including pricing, be sure check out the look book over at The Cut.
