Beautiful Bella

Bella by Adam Hanson (Click image to enlarge)

Remember when I did a post about Meowoodle back in March? Well, I still love the Tumblr dedicated to drawings, doodles and sketches by artists of their cats, and every so often a particular illustration tickles my fancy so much, I have to contact the artist to get the scoop on the real kitty behind the creation! One such recent find was this glamorous, hot pink retro kitty poster, inspired by an equally glam, fluffy cat named Bella.

The artist's muse

"Bella" is the work of Chicago-based designer and illustrator, Adam Hanson, and when asked to share the real-life inspiration behind his kitty creation, the friendly, cat loving artist couldn't be more excited.

Adam and Bella

Adam tells me that Bella is actually his girlfriend's cat (Hi Gini!), so therefore his by default, and that the pretty kitty loves "sleeping, cuddling, barking at pigeons, napping, relaxing, and exclusively only eats Fancy Feast (which she is hoping to model for one day)."

I don't know about you, but I think Bella would be the purrfect Fancy Feast spokescat, and hope her modeling dreams come true! If not, she's still sure to be the envy of cool cats everywhere for having such a fabulous portrait done in her honor!

Special thanks goes out to Adam and Gini for sharing their beautiful Bella with us! Make sure to stop by Adam's website and Facebook to check out more of his amazing work!

You Oughta Know: Meowoodle

Buffins & Tibbles by Richard Perez / Skinny Ships

"It was lunchtime. I just finished lunch and drew a doodle of my 1 year old cat, Tibbles, and wondered how other illustrators with furry companies capture their cats personality on the page (or screen). So I started Meowoodle, to collect these different feline portraits."

So reads the "About" page for your new favorite Tumblr, Meowoodle, a "collection of drawings, doodles and sketches by designers and illustrators of their cats."

The very first post on the site was an illustration by Meowoodle creator, Richard Perez, of his two cats, Buffins and Tibbles (above). I asked Richard if he'd mind sharing a picture of their real life counterparts, and he was happy to oblige.

Richard says, "Here's a little info about the two, my girlfriend Jen and I got Buffins, a female orange tabby, from a woman who rescues and rehabilitates abandoned cats. About two years later we got her a little buddy to play and boss around. So we went to a San Francisco rescue shelter and adopted Tibbles, a stripy grey boy kitty. And we all live happily together in our little apartment, well apart from the occasional cat fight."

I think the idea behind the site is brilliant, and can honestly say I love each and every kitty portrait that's been featured so far. So what are you waiting for? Go check out Meowoodle today!
