If I had a list of "Favorite Things" à la Oprah, "Miss Minoes" would be on it. I raved about the 2001 Dutch film after seeing it for the first time in January, and consider it one of the most cat-friendly films of all time.
If you're a fan of quirky foreign movies starring talking animals (who isn't?), this is the film for you. Based on the beloved 1970 children's book by Dutch author Annie M.G. Schmidt, Minoes was originally released a decade ago in its native Netherlands, before being dubbed in English for a stateside release in late 2011. The award-winning film stars Carice van Houten (Melisandre on Game of Thrones) as a cat-turned-woman, who saves the career of a local young journalist after providing him with the town's juiciest kitty gossip.
As I noted in my initial review (which can be read in full here), what I enjoyed most about the plot was that instead of focusing on the obvious question of why she turned into a human or how she could turn back into a cat, it transforms into the heartwarming tale of how Minoes struggles to adjusting to life as a woman, her often hilarious interactions with the neighborhood kitties, and her blossoming relationship with Tibbe (Theo Maassen), the struggling journalist who takes her in. And of course, there's also a nefarious, animal hating town benefactor (and adorable kittens in distress), thrown into the mix for good measure.
Miss Minoes is a must see film for cat lovers of all ages, and is available now on DVD from Amazon. You can also rent or buy a digital copy here.
Disclosure: Music Box Films provided me with a screener copy of the film, however I would have written about it anyway because, duh!
This sounds like a great movie! We're gonna check it out for sure. :)

Well, saved it on netflix when it comes, but I think we may have to visit Amazon first. Mom has it set up for one click, and we know how to work a mouse ;)
