Kellie Pickler Designs A Sweater For Cat Appreciation Month

American Idol starts a new season tonight on Fox (I love J. Lo, I can't help it), and one former contestant is making headlines - not because of a recent arrest or a stint on Celebrity Rehab - but because of her lifelong love for animals.

Season 5 standout and self-proclaimed "critter lover" Kellie Pickler, recently announced that she'll be teaming up with the ASPCA in February to help celebrate Cat Appreciation Month (wait, isn't that every month..?), by designing a limited edition cat sweater to benefit the animal welfare organization.

Following in the footsteps of Forever 21 - who also recently released some feline fashions to help to benefit the non-profit - Pickler worked with designer Geren Ford to create the shirt she hopes will dispel the myth of the crazy cat lady. She tells the Chicago Tribune, "You'll like these sweaters; they're really nice - not like crazy cat lady sweaters or cheesy Christmas sweaters."

The cheddar-free design will go on sale next month, and a shirt worn by Picker herself will also be auctioned off, along with tickets to see the country star in concert. 100% of the proceeds will be going to the charity.

In addition to Kellie's contribution, Fresh Step is also reportedly getting involved in the Cat Appreciation Month action, by pledging $1.00 (up to $100,000) to the ASPCA for each fan who posts a picture of their cat on the brand's Facebook page in February. Word has it that they'll also be releasing an app that will allow fans to digitally dress themselves in Pickler's kitty sweater, lest they can't get their paws on one of their own.

There are no details yet on exactly what this groundbreaking cat sweater will look like, but you can bet your bottom dollar that this cat fashion blogger will be posting updates as soon as they become available.

Kellie's latest album, "100 Proof," is set to hit stores on Tuesday, Jan. 24th.
