The Museum Cats

Did you know that the basement of the famed Hermitage art museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia is home to a passel of pampered pussycats? The cats, who have inhabited the renowned museum for centuries, were originally kept on site to rid the basement of vermin. These days, with other extermination options available, they just stick around to seek shelter from the icy Russian winters. The feline residents, which number at around 50, are not allowed in the gallery areas, and rely on "devotees" and charitable donations for their care.

Sky News reports that one of the cats, who was found outside injured, starving, and freezing to death, "now sits majestically in his throne-like bed, answering to the name Viscount." Check out the video above for the full report (and some cute kitty action)!
