At 29, Charlie Is The World's Oldest Cat

We recently met the world's longest cat, and now here comes the world's oldest!

Charlie the cat is poised to set a new record for his staggering age of 29. That's nearly 133 in cat years! Charlie's owner, Sina Graham, has had him since he was a six-week-old kitten, and can't imagine her life without him.

The Scottish Sun reports:

"Charlie went with Sina to cover Nelson Mandela's release in South Africa in 1990 and accompanied her to Kuwait for the first Gulf War and to the Lebanon-Israeli conflict. Charlie - who discovered his taste for tea after stealing some left on a kitchen counter - was even on Air Force One during Bill Clinton's presidency."

The previous record holder, a 23-year-old cat named Hestia, died in August.

5 Tasty Halloween Cat Cocktails

Get in the mood for Halloween with these tasty feline-themed libations. It's always happy hour somewhere!

Black Cat Cocktail #1

1 oz Vodka
1 oz Cherry Brandy
Cranberry Juice
Cola

Pour the vodka and brandy into a highball glass filled with ice. Fill the glass with equal parts cranberry juice and cola.

1 shot Blue Curacao
1 shot Vodka (can be flavored, if you're feeling adventurous)
3 shots Lemon Lime Soda
1 shot Cranberry Juice
1/2 shot Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice

Shake together the curacao, vodka, lime, and soda. Pour the cranberry juice into the bottom of a tall glass. Gently over the back of a spoon, pour the alcohol mixture over top. Serve with black cat cocktail stirrer (the drink should be stirred before drinking) and a lime curl or slice.

Black Cat Martini

5 oz Chambord (black raspberry liquor)
2 oz Black Vodka

Combine the Chambord and Black Vodka in a shaker with a cup of ice. Shake well, strain, then pour into a chilled cocktail glass.

1 oz Kahlua
2.5 oz Vanilla Vodka
.5 oz Black Sambuca

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice. Shake, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a few espresso beans.

1 oz Spiced Rum
1 oz Peach Schnapps
1 oz Orange Juice
Ice Cubes

Add a couple ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into glass over ice. Be prepared to smile like a Cheshire Cat after a few of these!

The Knitting Kitty Doll

How adorable is this sweet knitting kitty? I love her accessories - from her itty bitty red mary janes, to her cat-head purse filled with the tiniest ball of yarn and knitting needles! Unfortunately, this handmade creation is a limited edition of one, and was snapped up quickly on Etsy.

I have to say, from Lieschen Mueller to A Black Apple, cat fashion dolls are having a serious moment!

Someone Skinned Hello Kitty And Made Shoes Out Of Her

In all seriousness, I don't know if I would rock these, but they do look hella cute with black tights.

The limited edition Reebok PT-20's come in black, white, and pink, and are available for pre-order in Japan.

When reached for comment, this is what Hello Kitty had to say:

Kathy writes: "All her friends came dressed in their jammies and we had cat-themed games and food."

Here's Kathy's adorable daughter getting ready to play "pin the bow-tie on the kitty"

Cat Pumpkin Bonanza!

Yesterday morning, I finally went out and bought my perfect Halloween pumpkin (a woman in the parking lot even commented that it was the "classic" pumpkin shape). Now the question is, how am I going to carve it? (Spoiler alert: It will involve cats).

As usual, I turned to the internet for some divine kitty inspiration, and picked out a few of my favorites to share.

I ended up getting distracted along the way with pictures of cats WITH pumpkins, so you'll find some of those too!

Simple, yet super cute. The bow gives it a Minnie Mouse vibe, and extra points for what appears to be pipe cleaner whiskers. I love it when pumpkins accessorize!

This one's called "Elliot and His Little Pumpkin"

French Kitty is one of my favs, so I was excited to see a jack-o-lantern in the glamourous felines honor.

"The Pumpkin Pride! Sammi the pumpkin, Fat Holly the Pumpkin, and Midget (aka Grendel) the pumpkin"

Maneki Neko, the lucky cat pumpkin

"Sissy Cat and pumpkin - Sissy sits on my side of the couch in a classic pose for her with paws tucked under"

Pink fish!

"Pumpkin & my One-eyed Cat"

This sweet little guy is made with a Japanese tsurukubi pumpkin

Believe it or not, Flickr user fuzzy_ismit used a fake pumpkin to make this carving of her kitty, Dot. What makes this pumpkin one of my favorites is how it was lit up. They used different color LED lights to achieve the unique, multi-colored effect seen below!

"Cat in a Pump-kat"

artbeco created this lovely yin-yang kitty pumpkin. She sells them in her Etsy store, although I don't see any cat pumpkins currently for sale.

"Simba's pumpkin - Halloween night"

"Cat-o-lantern - It took me forever to make friends with this cat enough to convince it to pose by this pumpkin."

A late edition to my previously posted online collection of Keyboard Cat Pumpkins!

Amazing Cheshire Cat pumpkin

And finally, one of my favorite Halloween cat pumpkins of all! A year or two ago I used the small cat club's retro-spooky pumpkin above as inspiration for a carving of my own. What really drew me to this pumpkin was its unusual Pac Man-like eyes and detachable ears.

While mine wasn't nearly as good, it still won cutest pumpkin in my office's pumpkin carving contest.

So what do you think? Do you have any catty jack-o-lanterns of your own to share? Drop me a line at catsparella@gmail.com - I'd love to see!
